| "Art
is the soul of a nation," said Boris Shatz who founded the first art school in modern
Jerusalem in 1906, naming it the Bezalel Academy of Art after the artist who designed the
Biblical Tabernacle, Bezalel Ben Uri. Says Yael Gahnassia: "For me, a newcomer to Israel, the discovery of the Bezalel pioneers who were creating authentic national art was an overwhelming emotional experience." This was what inspired her to find the best works not only of the Bezalel School but of all the periods that followed. From the Biblical child bride Rebecca at the well to scenes of pioneers in the fields, classic works from the original Bezalel School and up to the contemporary scene, Yael Gahnassia is scrupulous in selecting the high quality art that best expresses "the soul of a nation." |
This is the vision that
Mayanot wishes to share with the general public. One of her most lauded endeavors was the publication of "The Five Books of Moses" in Hebrew, English and French, with illustrations from the works of Bezalel master Abel Pann. Yael Gahnassia arranges exhibitions for Israeli and international galleries and institutions. She designs thematic exhibitions, either of one artist or of a group, focusing on a motif, event, or period. See N E W S for Mayanot Gallery Events |
